How can you make your first night in your new home a more comfortable one?

You should start thinking of this before you pack your first box. Make a list of important things you will need that first night. Next, pack a few first-night boxes. One should have toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, soap, deodorant, toilet paper, bath towels, paper towels, a shower curtain, medications, and personal items. A first-aid kit should always be readily available during your move. Another box should have blankets, bed linens, pajamas, slippers, and robes so you can be comfortable on your first night. A kitchen box should be packed with some snacks and breakfast items as well as paper plates, cups, and napkins so you don’t have to worry about dishes.

What are some things you should check before your first night?

Make sure the electricity is turned on and that your heater is working and/or your oil tank is filled. Your telephone should be hooked up in case of emergencies. If you are moving over a period of weeks, keep a telephone working at both your new and old homes so you can be reached in either location. If you are planning on changing your locks in your new home, do this before you move in. Make sure all the smoke detectors have fresh batteries and are in working condition. If you enjoy reading the morning newspaper, arrange to have it delivered.

By following some of these tips, your first night will be very enjoyable as we hope the rest of your life in your new home will be.
