Organizing your sewing supplies can make your hobby much more fun and enjoyable. Start by evaluating all of your sewing needs. Your goal should be to set up a functional system where everything has a specific space.
Designate a specific area for your sewing place. You may be fortunate enough to have a sewing room or part of an area to call your own. If not, consider devoting a closet to your sewing nook. Just as a desk area can be designed into an existing closet, a sewing area can be as well. A pull-out shelf designed to fit your sewing machine will always give you easy access to your machine.
A cabinet can also be designed for your sewing machine and accessories. Shallow shelves designed behind the machine are perfect for spools, bobbins, and other accessories. When you are finished sewing, simply push the shelf holding your machine back into the closet and close the door.
Pull-out basket systems allow you to store items in an open drawer so everything is easily visible. Clear plastic liners in the drawers will prevent small items from falling though. Placing the basket systems on casters will allow you to take the system wherever you go. A fold-down ironing board mounted within your sewing area is a great idea for pressing those endless seams. Having a mirror on the door to this ironing board will allow you to examine those garments you have just created.
