“Exquisite, Warm, Natural, Sophisticated, Simple, Uncluttered."

Frank Lloyd Wright in feel. These words describe this very unique Master Closet renovation.

Originally 6-foot deep by 7-foot wide, the space is now 13-foot deep by 7-foot wide. The reconfiguration of the adjacent foyer space allowed for more than a 100% increase in the square footage of this closet.

Our clients wanted a “Wow!” closet. Unusual wood finished in a natural way with very special detail. They also had a problem we had to solve. Our layout had to meet their individual clothing requirements while eliminating the disharmony between two people of different habits: one being obsessive in nature and the other a relative slob.

Our solution was to create fully-doored and enclosed areas, decreasing visibility.

Our biggest hurdle was how to accomplish this in such a narrow space without compromising accessibility or walk space. Sliding-doored, wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling armoires were part of the solution… while using a light wood created a wider airy feeling. The result was a hand-crafted, highly-figured and almost iridescent curly maple. We examined over 25 veneer samples before choosing one.

One further dilemma - how to provide space for media equipment controlled by remote from the bedroom. Space behind the hampers worked, providing adequate ventilation while hidden from view.

Dividing the space accurately required a thorough garment inventory which revealed 125 foldables, 100 pairs of shoes and 60 purses. Unique accessorizing opportunities were fulfilled such as the use of a double file drawer for packages of stockings held upright and in alphabetical order by color, electronically locked velvet lined jewelry drawers, a combination wall safe, wicker tip-out hampers for dirty clothes and dry cleaning and interlocking wood divided compartments for rolled up ties and belts. Undermount full extension drawers almost close themselves.

The brown leather ottoman, floor-to-ceiling mirror and handsome handmade platinum hardware were part of the “Wow!” effect.
