2006 Lehigh Valley Builders Association Award for Professional Excellence - Specialty Projects
Note: The LVBA began sponsoring the Awards for Professional Excellence program in 1981. The program selects award winners in a number of categories. The entrants are graded on:
• Workmanship (appearance, attention to detail, custom applications and application of standard stock);
• Creativity (solution to difficult problem and special/out-of-ordinary touch); and
• Design (general efficiency, harmony with existing structures, use of space, and appropriateness of materials).
Once again, Creative Closets received top honors. This time it was in the $5,000 to $10,000 Specialty Products category. And, here’s a description and glimpses of the masterpiece…
The Absolute Wine Cellar
A wine cellar! How absolutely extravagant! Twelve hundred and eighty-three bottles (1283!) from all over the world. Magnums, imported cases, individual bottles and diamond-shaped areas specifically designed to hold full cases of wine of a specific vintage.
Enter this fabulous wine cellar through the arched entry and please 
don’t miss the African slate floor. Created from the heart of the magnificent redwood tree found in Northern California, this wine cellar will resist deterioration from the elements created by the humidity and temperature control which is essential to preserving the quality of wine. Of special note are the radius corners and arched center focal point designed to carry through the theme of the arched entry.
Lighting is critical in the case of a wine cellar. Reading of labels is important as well as the mood the lights set. Moveable low voltage vapor-proof lights that adjust in angle help create the answer to both needs as well as highlighting the most prized pieces in the collection. Dimmers help further with the ambiance.
The collection of wines by people in their own residences has become incredibly popular and basement areas are ideal. It is not unusual to see collections ranging from 1000 – 5000 bottles.
